(Philadelphia, November 3, 2009) The all-women traditional Irish band Cherish the Ladies returns to the Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts on Sunday, November 15, 2009 at 7:00 PM. Mixing high octane Irish reels, jigs and step dancing with humorous storytelling, Cherish the Ladies combines all the facets of Irish traditional culture into one immensely entertaining evening. Tickets for the performance are $20-$40. For tickets or for more information, please visit www.AnnenbergCenter.org or call 215.898.3900. Tickets can also be purchased in person at the Annenberg Center Box Office. This is the first performance of the 09/10 Penn Presents Irish Roots series, which features an incredible lineup of artists and performances including fiddling sensation Natalie MacMaster on St. Patricks Day and the traditional Irish group Téada in a festive Holiday performance.
Organized in 1985 by folklorist and musician Mick Maloney (a University of Pennsylvania PH.D. in folklore), Cherish the Ladies has easily become one of the most engaging ensembles in the history of Irish music. Taking their name from the name of a traditional Irish jig, the group has shared the stage with such noted entertainers as James Taylor, Joan Baez, Emmy Lou Harris, the Chieftains and dozens of symphony orchestras. They have been named Best Musical Group of the Year by the BBC and have recorded eleven highly acclaimed albums.
Cherish the Ladies is comprised of Joanie Madden (flute, whistles, vocals), Mary Coogan (guitar, mandolin, banjo), Roisín Dillon (fiddle), Mirella Murray (accordion), Kathleen Boyle (piano), and Michelle Burke (vocals).
